What is secondary glazing and what are the benefits?

Secondary Glazing is when another layer of glass is installed on the inside, room-side of an existing glazed window. 

What are the benefits of secondary glazing?

• Ideally suited for properties where replacing the existing windows is not possible or cost-effective; for example, listed properties, period properties, and houses in conservation areas.

Here at Prior Aluminium, we provide both horizontal and vertical sliding secondary glazing, ideal for box sash windows or casement windows. We also provide hinged secondary windows which lends itself to hard to treat areas such as bay windows and for large glass areas. Another option for hard to treat areas would be lift out secondary glazing. Lift out secondary glazing is named as such because the large panels can be lifted out of the frame for easy cleaning or to provide ventilation. 

The cheapest and easiest to fit option is fixed secondary glazing. They have no opening mechanism, no subframe and are simply fixed directly onto the existing windows. This style of secondary glazing will provide no access to the prime window but this option is easy to fit and therefore easy to reverse.
